The paradox of our business is that sometimes after a day on set making dreams come true, the crew is left feeling abused and exhausted.

Other production companies still use a process that was designed in the 1910s. At the dawn of Hollywood the demand for movies was so high studios couldn’t churn them out fast enough.

They looked around at other industries and decided to model production off Henry Ford’s assembly line and the mechanized combat of WWI. Their process maximized two things: efficiency and profit.

For over 100 years, production companies have used and reused (and reused) this same approach. From the big screen, to the TV screen, to cell phone screens today.

The problem is: this process is extractive. By focusing only on efficiency and profit it ends up depleting our industry’s most valuable resource, creativity.

The Light is established by and designed by women who are creating a whole new production process for the future. Our unique method focuses on the underlying architecture of the production experience, providing a new approach that truly prioritizes creativity.
